Role and Mandate

The role and mandate of NCPD is spelt in Legal Notice No. 120 contained in the Kenya Gazette Supplement No. 68 dated 29th October 2004. NCPD is mandated to undertake the following functions:

  • Research and analyze population issues and develop policies relating to population
  • Provide leadership and mobilize support or population programmes, including coordination and implementation by different organizations
  • Assess the impact of population programmes and make recommendations arising from such assessment
  • Identify and advise on population issues that may not be adequately or appropriately dealt with by the government
  • Create public awareness on population and development issues in Kenya Undertake viable advocacy activities aimed at achieving support on certain population

Dr. Abdisalan Mohamed Noor – Board Chairman

Dr. Noor graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Surveying from the University of Nairobi in 1999. Following an internship at the International Research on Livestock Institute he joined the KEMRI/Wellcome Trust Research Programme in 2000. He completed his PhD on Spatial Epidemiology to develop models of access to and use of government health services in Kenya in 2005 with the Open University, UK and the University of Oxford, UK. In 2007 he was awarded a Research Training Fellowship by the Wellcome Trust to investigate the spatial and socio-economic determinants of access to and use of health interventions among rural African communities, particularly the understanding and modeling of
